Be a Thought Leader: Is it really more than just a buzz word?

Do you consider yourself a thought-leader?

What exactly is thought leadership?
Why the trendy buzz word?
And how do I get it?

Throughout my career, I’ve tended to run from the obvious and trendy. After college, when all my fellow UVA grads flocked to DC for jobs, I headed half-way around the world to Australia.  When I was told I was crazy for striking out on my own 15 years ago, I did it even sooner.

So, trust me when I say…

A “thoughtleader” is so much more than a buzz word.

It’s someone who is a changemaker, a giver, an educator, a curiosity-seeker.

It’s sharing wisdom and expertise that one has honed over years of education and experience. And it’s about sharing that value openly and widely to help others.

To me, it’s about a desire to create impact and change.

It’s an effective communicator who can connect with their audience.

And who can courageously share new ideas and varied viewpoints, even when others might disagree or it might buck the norm.

And over time, and with consistency, it means becoming a visible, credible expert in your field.

Fueling Thought Leadership

For me, helping these changemakers find their voice, to articulate their ideas, and to show up with courage and confidence are just some of the ways I find fulfillment in my work and help to make positive change for others.

I believe, every one of my clients has something unique to share with the world…something important…something special.

And my job is to be the catalyst – to spark that something that exists in all of us. So you can finally claim ownership of the confident thought leader you are supposed to be.

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to share five key ways that building the skills to be a thought leader have worked for me.

By being….

Authentic
Consistent
Visible
Courageous
Impactful
