Impact vs Profit: Can One Achieve Both?

I used to think you could change the world OR earn a livable income. Not both. 

I chose to “change the world.”

I can’t say I eradicated global warming, saved the gorillas, or eliminated poverty (at least not yet;)

But, through my journey of telling stories that matter – to educate, inspire and spark change - I came to see the impact one person CAN have.

The ripple effect one person’s words or actions… to gain millions in donations for a cause, to earn millions in advertising for a business, to spawn entire movements!  

It is remarkable. And I changed my mind.

One person can make a difference AND make a living, an amazing living.

Because it’s those authentic stories that not only spark change, but resonate and attract others, to grow not only movements but businesses!

I told stories for NGOs, for companies, and for the media. And each and every time, I’d be tasked with:  “find ONE CHARACTER” who can tell the story. One, real person willing to share their truth.

Just ONE person. 

One person whose words and actions would be broadcast to the world as inspiration, to spark understanding and empathy, and/or to educate.

Just ONE person. 

So, my question to you? (And to myself.)

Why can’t we all be that ONE person?

  • What change do you want to spark?
  • How do you want to create more meaningful work?
  • How can you use your voice for the better?


The only thing that holds us back from sparking that change? And leveling up our business?

Courage.  Courage to share our story, our views and our values.

We fear putting ourselves out there. We fear those who might disagree or have a different opinion. Or that we might somehow alienate those who could hire us.

I like to say “courageous brands change the world.”

It is those who leverage their expertise, experience and their voice to spark change. And when one does, impact AND profit follow.
