Authenticity in Leadership

Can you be more authentic as a leader?

“Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It’s about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let our true selves be seen.”
– Brené Brown

Being our authentic selves takes courage.

And being authentic in our professional life can be downright terrifying. It feels so much more comfortable to play it safe, do what’s expected, and run with the herd since there’s so much riding on sustaining our workload.

But... the world is looking for more than just more of the same. They’re looking for real meaning behind a message.  They’re looking for connection and to know who to trust.

Being authentic in your business makes it easy for potential clients to…

Hear your message loud and clear.
Understand what you stand for
Feel connected to you.

It helps you stand out from a sea of sameness.

So, what does authenticity mean?

The Merriam-Webster dictionary says it’s being true to one's own personality, spirit, or character. And why would you work so hard to have it any other way?

Why does authenticity matter for your business?

In a March 2021 article in Forbes, 90% of customers mentioned authenticity as an important factor in deciding which brands they like and support.

How does authenticity get you more clients?

Having the courage to be authentically you in your business pays off time after time.  When you put your true self out in the world, you attract the people who resonate with your authentic message.  These are the people who “get” you and want to hire you – your tribe.

How do you make authenticity work for your business?

Authenticity isn’t something you just turn on and off like a light switch.  Like Brene Brown said, being authentic is a choice.  When you have the courage to show up as your authentic self, you are making the choice to be seen, be impactful, and ultimately be profitable.
